Pang (Calvin Pang)
"I prefer to work with materials that are ordinary. It is my way of connecting with the visceral tactility of art making, and to bridge the distance between my viewer and the work through the everyday familiarity of the materials I use. It is from there that I hope to lead the viewer into a leap of the imagination, to see beyond the familiarity of the object and into the ability of art to make new meanings."

Familiarity and impermanence are twinned concepts in Pang’s work. It is through the twinned concepts that his work point at slippage and loss. White, and its subtly varied tonal qualities, is a chromatic element Pang holds firmly to his work, imbedding in the colour symbolic and aesthetic interests in conveying meaning and experience.
