"My childhood was characterised by constant moves and the need to adapt myself to new environments with each move. These early experiences left impressions that now contribute to the issues of home and displacement as the forefront of my artistic concerns. What is the price of progress and development on personal and collective memories, and on the socio-cultural fabric, as we speed head first into glowing visions of a first-world future? "

The work draws inspiration from Gardens by the Bay to imagine a futuristic ‘City in a Garden’ dystopia. Jying combines video animation and cut-out drawings to present a multimedia installation at once delicate and surreal.
